India’s best IAS officers

India’s best : These 8 IAS officers are a credit to the service By: Priya Bala        Caught between their commitment to serve and the whims of political bosses, IAS officers in India walk a difficult path.  And yet they carry on. Here are some who keep the flag flying and provide inspiration to others: 1. Armstrong Pame                                    IAS Officer makes effort to bulid a road in a remote area without govt help : Armstong pame IAS     The people of Tousem, one of India’s most backward regions, and a subdivision in Manipur, call him ‘Miracle Man’. For that’s what he wrought, when he gave them what they had never had – a motorable road linking to the outside world.  Pame, the 29-year-old IAS officer from the 2009 batch, is Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Tousem, a post he assumed in 2012. So moved was he by the plight of the people he went about building the road, beginning by putting in some money of his own.

Motherless Mothers day

How to Celebrate Mother's Day When You Don't Have A Mom It's almost that time of year again. Mother's Day is right around the corner. It's a bittersweet holiday for me. Mostly bitter. 2 years ago, just two week's before Mother's Day, I buried my mom. Since her death, here is how I've celebrated the two Mother's Days that have come.  Mother's Day #1: Since it had only been two weeks since her funeral, I watched almost an entire season of Gilmore Girls in one sitting. It was like it had finally hit me. I remember thinking, "I'm going to sit here and watch this mother/daughter/best friends combo, and remember how I just buried the Lorelai to my Rory. It will help me feel what I've lost." It worked, but let's be honest, 16 hours of television isn't really healthy.  Mother's Day #2: I pretended it didn't happen. I flipped off the Mother's Day card section at the store, avoided Facebook

Kids can ROCK ‘Adult’ Playground Equipment too!

Of Course Kids can ROCK ‘Adult’ Playground Equipment too! By Anna   In Australia and around the world, ‘adult’ exercise equipment items are becoming common additions to playground areas. Sure, the equipment may have been designed with adults in mind; as a public health initiative to keep adults moving and physically active. But… the ‘oversized’, brightly coloured contraptions with moveable parts, certainly also intrigue our younger citizens. In fact, kids can ROCK ‘adult’ playground equipment too! Let’s take a closer look at what happens when kids choose to take on ‘adult’ challenges in the playground…     This adventure is another in the   Let the Child Lead   series.  The sign read: “Adult Exercise Equipment. This equipment is designed for use by people 12 years and older. Please follow the instructions located next to each piece of exercise equipment.” But a five year old couldn’t read this recommendation, and the fe

Burn my body

Burn My Body                This is not a story about love, or lust, or reprisal. This is not just a film on sexual abuse. This is a story that delves deep inside the human mind that is devious, manipulative, and beyond belief. One of the world’s greatest taboos, this will outrage all acceptable community sensibilities. She killed herself because she was a victim of sexual abuse. But even in death, her body wasn't spared. Her soul must be, somewhere, crying out in pain. Hold a candle for peace and inspire

Hold a candle for peace and to inspire       “If you hold a candle close to you, its flame rises. And if you hold it away from you, its flame shrinks. The same way you hold a candle close to you, keep all your plans, aspirations, projects, and dreams close to you too. Do not share your plans or goals until you complete them, because as you hold your candle away from you, your goals will shrink in the eyes of others. Envy, jealousy, and resentment will put out your flame before it grows. Never reveal what you are doing until you have accomplished it. Resentment does not only come from those close to you, but also distant strangers. Therefore, fiercely guard the passions burning inside your heart, so that their flames can safely reach the highest ceilings of success without the eyes of envy.”    “Each time a person passes by you and you say 'hello', imagine that person turning into a candle. The more positivity, love and light you reflect, the more lig
